The table has 9 key character wands that you’re invited to touch and put to the test! As you hold each wand you learn more about its history and its core makeup. Fun Facts:

• The Pensieve is a very rare magical device (stone basin covered in mystic runes and milky, ethereal liquid) that allows one to revisit captured memories – either of their own or from someone else.
• Wands are fiercely loyal to their owners. The Elder Wand on the other hand is completely “unsentimental” – it will only be loyal to strength.

Also within the vicinity of the wand shop, you’ll come across multiple digital windows that exhibit an enchanting forest that transforms throughout the day and reflects all the different seasons! Within the forest, you’ll find a bunch of your favorite characters patronuses roaming through the trees! If you’re patient enough and have a sharp eye, you can even spot Dumbledore’s Phoenix Patronus in a never before seen Harry Potter New York exclusive experience!

Fun Fact: Most wizards can’t produce a full Patronus. It’s considered one of the most difficult spells for a witch or wizard to master. A Patronus is an advanced spell that draws upon a wizards/witches happiest memories to produce a shield to help protect themselves from Dementors (terrifying creatures that feed on human happiness and leave a human vessel that’s full of nothing but depression and despair).

You as the student have just missed the Hogwarts Express at King’s Cross Station – Platform 9 3/4! But fret not because everyone’s favorite house elf – Dobby, helps you get to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! He does require your help of course to deliver a mysterious suitcase to Professor Dumbledore – top secret Hogwarts business! As you journey through the enchanting castle of Hogwarts you’ll meet a ton of magical characters & creatures such as Hogwarts ghosts, chatty portraits, Cornish pixies, and more! Stay on the offense and have your wand at the ready!! The ending is up to you…

What is Wizards Take Flight about?

“Wizards Take Flight” takes Harry Potter fans on a thrilling aerial adventure on their own broom through the skies of London and above Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry before heeding Hagrid’s call for help! 

Potterheads must help Hagrid by defeating a gang of Death Eaters that have invaded the stormy skies of London using their wands to cast spells! The mission is complete with life-like sensory effects such as wind & rain making the immersive virtual landscapes that much more thrilling! Right before you’re attacked by Death Eaters, guests do get the chance to warm up & get adjusted to their broom & environment by free-flying around the enchanted grounds of Hogwarts Castle! A truly breathtaking sight!

What type of VR gear do you use to experience Wizards Takes Flight? You wear a VR headset, hand sensors, and wield a wand to physically cast spells. You are seated the entire time! 

The “gear up” room resembles a Quidditch team changing room! After donning all the necessary gear, you then get to select your Hogwarts House and customize your avatar! After that, you’re given a tutorial on how to cast spells with your wand. You’re finally put to the test before entering the VR room – you must cast “alohomora” to get the doors to open – so much fun!

How many people can ride Wizards Takes Flight? Up to 6 guests – there’s a broom for each guest at the broomstick stations, set up in a circle. If you have less than six people in your group, then you’ll be placed with others.

All of the Harry Potters books look as if they’re floating above you! It truly is a visual feast for the eyes!

Aside from all of the magical & eye-catching elements on display in the area, you can shop & browse for all of your favorite Harry Potter & Fantastic Beasts books found on display on several bookshelves. Art lovers will appreciate this area of the store as the House of MinaLima is both a gallery and store showcasing several graphic art from the Wizarding World designed exclusively by MinaLima, the graphic design duo behind all of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies! Potterheads can discover all sorts of unique finds created by the talented duo such as Harry’s Hogwarts acceptance letters which can be seen flowing out of the iconic fireplace from the Sorcerer’s Stone movie, several issues from the Daily Prophet, Platform 9 3/4 train tickets, Marauder’s Map, Colorful prints from the Wizarding World, Ministry of Magic Wanted Posters, and Xenophilius Lovegood’s very own newspaper, The Quibbler!

• Before the Harry Potter Store New York opened, you could only visit the House of MinaLima in London’s very own Soho neighborhood which opened on the 6th of June 2016! Now visitors in New York can visit America’s first and only House of MinaLima at the Harry Potter Store NY which opened on June 3, 2021.
• If you look closely at the wallpaper at the House of MinaLima you’ll notice that it features Sirius Black’s ancestral family tree. This artwork was featured in Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix.
• If you look on the floor at the House of MinaLima you’ll see the full Marauders Map on display.

• Despite his love of all animals, Hagrid is surprisingly allergic to cats!
• Hagrid’s genetic makeup makes him very resistant to stunning spells. He also has incredible strength and is a very skilled crossbowman.
• Because of Hagrid’s sheer size, he can’t ride a broomstick like other wizards, and can only ride a magical motorbike!

10. Measure up yourself against a life-sized Hagrid Chart

Aside from posing inside one of Hagrid’s shoes, Harry Potter fans can also measure themselves against a life-sized Hagrid chart! The 9-foot ruler on display is such a fun element for curious fans to see where they stand next against the half-giant & half-human being! 12. Go On A Scavenger Hunt In Search Of Authentic Props From The Harry Potter Movies

Ever dreamed of seeing some authentic props from the Harry Potter movies in person? The Harry Potter Store NY has 12 unique movie props (including Ravenclaw’s Diadem, The Golden Snitch, Tom Riddles Diary with the Basilisk Fang stabbed into it, Nimbus 2001, A Death Eater Mask, and The Golden Egg) spread throughout the vicinity in 9 cases. To make the experience more exciting, fans have the option of going on a mini scavenger hunt to locate these actual movie props with the help of a map that you receive when you enter the store!

To complete the hunt, you’ll also need to download the Harry Potter Fan Club app (iPhone user click here! | Android user click here!) you’ll need it to collect “Enchanted Keys”. If you scan the “Enchanted Keys” at each prop case with your phone, it will grant you access to behind-the-scenes footage from the movies, and fun facts about the prop! The fun doesn’t end there, once you collect all 9 “Enchanted Keys” you get a secret password that you’ll need to whisper to one of the store’s cashiers, in return, you get a free gift!

The Dark Arts section of the Harry Potter Store NY has two Deathly Hallows-themed mirrors in each corner of the room! They make such a unique selfie moment! 

Fun Fact: The Deathly Hallows symbol represents three powerful & magical artifacts created by Death. The symbol consists of the Elder Wand, an extremely powerful wand that was considered invincible; the Resurrection Stone, a stone that could summon the souls of the dead, and the Cloak of Invisibility, which helps the user become completely invisible when worn. The symbol as a whole includes a triangle that represents the Invisibility Cloak, the line – Elder Wand, and a circle – Resurrection Stone!

Before you leave the Dark Arts section of the Harry Potter Store NY. Be sure to snap a photo of you & Nagini! Play around with your camera angles – crouch down, elevate your phone, or try using the Ultra Wide lens on your phone. All in all, just have fun with it! 

Fun Fact: Nagini is a Maledictus. A Maledictus is a carrier of a blood curse that will ultimately destine them to transform permanently into a beast!

18. Ride The Floor Powder Themed Elevator

After you’ve explored the whole lower level of the Harry Potter Store NYC make your way to the next floor up by riding the Floo Powder Themed elevator – you can always go up the stairway guarded by the rotating Griffen but the journey up the elevator is much cooler!

You can catch the elevator tucked in the corner of the Dark Arts section of the store. It’s not hard to miss as the outside of the elevator doors are designed with bright orange burning flames. As the doors open, you’re hit with a visual feast for the eyes as the illusion of green fiery flames engulfs the interior of the elevator. You definitely feel like you’re traveling through the Floor Network! 

Fun Fact: The Floo Network is a mode of transportation in the wizarding world in which a witch or wizard goes from one place to another by means of Floo powder and a fireplace. Place a pinch of silvery Floo powder in the fire, and it becomes green and harmless!

19. Personalize Your Very Own Acceptance Letter, Wand, Robe, Hogwarts Trunk, Notebook, and Pen At Things That Must Be Named

Before you venture off to the Ministry of Magic. be sure to snap a photo of yourself inside a London-style red phone booth! To help set the stage for that perfect photo, the red phone booth has a brick wall backdrop with Wanted Posters of Harry Potter, Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius Black, Newt Scamander, Fenrir Greyback, and more scattered all over!

Fun Fact: Visiting the Ministry of Magic requires a witch / wizard to dial (62442, the word M-A-G-I-C) once inside the red telephone booth!

The great thing to know about visiting the Harry Potter Store New York is that it’s free to enter meaning more spending money on Harry Potter gifts! Yay!! You also have to be aware that because of how popular the Harry Potter fandom is & Covid still being prevalent throughout the world, there’s a virtual queuing system in place which means that there will be some advance planning required before visiting. Fans will need to scan a QR code outside the store to secure a spot in the queue (new daily code from 9 am – maximum of 6 per group).

Once you’ve accomplished that, you can go about your day in New York and tackle some other activities nearby. The Harry Potter Store NY will send you a text message when it’s your turn to walk into the store. After receiving the notification, you have one hour to return to the store and enter this Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Depending on the time of day and week you may be lucky and not have to go through with the whole virtual queuing system. I went early in the day – during the middle of the week and walked right into the store without having to wait. Just plan accordingly!
